Still at early stages of planning and trying to balance costs as can't afford to run at loss. So is it better to have 1 or 2 tubs in a smaller premises to keep costs down or 4 or 5 tubs for those few occasions when you are busy ?
Also is it better to open restricted hours i.e 4 till 8 weekdays
and 10 till 6 weekends and keep other job and only pay for a few hours wages ?

Paul,

I thought I had responded to your inquiry, but apparently had not. So:

I can't say what is best for you, but if you need to keep another job while getting the business established, what you proposed about evening and weekend hours makes sense to me. Weekends definitely tend to be busiest for most.

As for tubs, the problem with only a tub or two is that it's tough to generate enough revenue with such a small operation. It defeats the idea of people being able to come in when they want without making an appointment, when customers arrive to find a line of people and their dogs waiting. So while you need to not overextend yourself, thinking too small can really limit the potential of the business. Hopefully you would be busy with 4 or 5 tubs more than on a "few occasions"!

Cheers,

I've got 3 tubs in suburban Indianapolis, and we rarely have a waiting line and do 200 to 250 baths per month. We use Hydrosurge systems which get folks in and out quicker and they LOVE how easy/quick it is for them. I rent the hydrosurge units for $20 a month, plus 2 gallons of shampoo, from Jarden.
